Cool game, though one criticism - the scan line effect is wrong. Scan lines on CRTs are horizontal, not vertical, so the effect is a bit off. Also, if we could get the option to turn the scan lines off entirely, that would be nice as well. Anyways, apart from that, good game! Fun platforming and secrets abound.

N64 ROM or Windows EXE?

There were a few times where i broke broke the game by accidentally hopping out of bounds before the triggered events and i got stuck in a spot where it won't let me move anymore ;~; I got the portion of the way through a puzzle and it ruined the run making me re do all of it, just to get a small text bubble at the end of the secret. (at least i think it was the end?) that read "...." and then sent me back to the first area with everything glitched (im sure on purpose, but I didn't know where to go from there or if i was done with that particular secret) but i thought it would end with me finding what lies beyond the games boundaries, but maybe i did something out of sequence? I scrapped the run after that cuz i was truly stumped on weather or not i did things right or if i still had some more steps to do to get the FULL out of bounds experience. to avoid spoilers but to also give a hint to those who know what im talking about, I got the game inverted, then went to the fist area outside of the work building, and jumped over the middle peaks that meet, and a scarecrow man jumped down on the other side, then the game wants you to find the scarecrow and the jump off the hill side out of bounds, the scarecrow man stands in front of a tunnel and i follow him in. i was then transported to a new location, desert looking type of level, where you have to follow the scarecrow through what seems to be an invisible maze, i finish out that part after interacting with an entity in an arm chair *shown in image* it then boots you back to the main hub outside of work, but everything is extra glitchy and some textures are replaced with sand. for those who know, is there anymore to this specific secret or was that the end of said sequence?

Hmm... Be safe? Or.. explore further? Sehr sehr tempting...

"Hmm... Be safe? Or... explore further? Very very tempting..."

If you want to get here, go under the first level, with all the blocks and chess pieces! You can follow a certain trail  to unlock the computer! Though it doesn't seem to work... I won't spoil what... or possibly who's hidden ;)

Please make a downloadable version

That's the neat part.

You don't.

I have no idea. I just don't think you can disable it, unfortunately.

The amount of times I drowned myself on purpose...At least five times...

I found this, I think someone has found it before me but just in case

Have you found anything to do in that room, I haven't found anything.

LETS GO I CAN PLAY CROW 64 ON BROWSER

please release the game as a .exe file (i want to play it on pc)

Aqui se ve reflejado el futuro de childroom

I'm a say this game is good

Hi! Is there any way that this game could be patched so that it can run in the Itch desktop app? Currently the white loading bar goes most of the way but then stops and never finishes.

there might be a problem with you're desktop because I'm a desktop user myself so I'm very confused in this situlation

Ah, it works in my browser, on desktop, but in the Itch app/program where you can download browser games for offline play, it doesn't work.

Hello, yes this was an accident and i might make a follow-up video on how this happened

No need, I found the document. Thank you for replying, though.

hi, idk if anyone else got this but, when i started the game, before going to the work place i started jumping in the bridge like things made of dirt and like for the third time i jumped the "scarecrow" appeared n jumped towards me.

(1 edit)

I played for a while but between the annoying camera controls and the overwhelming filter that makes my eyes hurt I had to give up, it's cool that this was made into an actual game but the experience itself is not worth it, I'll just wait for someone to make a video compiling every interesting thing.

the camera is like the camera in sm64

(+1)

I've played a lot of SM64 back in the day and the camera is nowhere near as unwieldy as it is in this game, mainly because there's no way to pan the camera left and right while moving like in SM64, if you don't believe me go back and check.

the camra in this game is ngl better then sm64

(-4)

er

(+1)

How do I play it?

(+4)(-8)

I'm seeing a few too many praises here not gonna lie, this does not live up to the hype in my opinion.
A game should be a game first and foremost, this is not a game this is an arg. This is the same complaint I had about shipwrecked 64. There is no game here, this is barely an interactive experience. If a game like this actually came out on the n64 it would have performed terribly and would have been remembered as one of the worst platformers of the era, so why are we praising it now just because it has a horror element hidden behind some thinly veiled fourth wall breaks?
But hey, it's free, so this is a very mediocre first game at best and a big letdown at worst. I guess.

(+3)

isn't that kind of the point, you do realize that this game was made to be an arg right? it was never meant to be like an actual game that released during the n64 because its an arg, the point of the game is not the game, but the story it conveys, and it does damn well good at that, like shipwrecked 64, i understand that your preference is just a game without a story, but to me, and others, a game and its story goes hand in hand, i get you can have your opinions, and I'm not discouraging that, I'm just saying that if you are gonna criticize a game for it being an arg and you don't like arg's, then instead of criticizing it, play a game you do like instead

I wish there was a version of this on Android because I only use phone (computer only sometimes)

(+2)

A great game, it was a catastrophe when the game was cancelled.

horror game

hey

hello

(+7)(-1)

There are a lot of issues that are present with this release that really brings it down in terms of an "enjoyable game experience." To name a few:

  • Lack of downloadable executable
  • Forced CRT filter (and by extension, lack of user settings)
  • Usage of textures from existing N64 games, which is a shame considering the time gap of 3 years between the original leak and this release
  • One hit health system, which makes the already minimal gameplay very frustrating (and even more when you see a supposed health meter referenced in the pause screen)
  • Lack of putting up any kind of front / objective for the player, outside of meta ARG content. You could loosely argue collecting the silver coins as a tangible game objective but that's really it.

Otherwise, the additional puzzles and meta content of the game is really interesting and softens some of the criticisms against the actual game. The "Unity N64 Emulator" angle is a lot more sensible than "Unity for N64" as well. However, with this release, I was really hoping for an expansion upon the gameplay seen in the leaked version. Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to have delivered in this regard, and is rather structured as more of an "attraction" of sorts than an actual game. Ironically, I would say the gameplay has worsened compared to the original leak, with the lack of mouse cam -- or any real camera control for that matter.

This is one of those things where its probably better off that you watch someone else play or discuss it on YouTube, unless you're interested in doing your own digging. The new nuggets of content are pretty cool and there are some great ideas here.

Absolutely agreed with every single point here, besides the "attraction" argument and the closing statement (also I haven't played the leak so idk how this compares to that). I just wish there was other control options (Maybe even an option to have mouse camera controls or use the Arrow Keys/WASD to move the camera, if you want to keep the "N64" theme). I would have also vastly prefered to have an option to turn the CRT effect off. It's cool, but sort of ruins immersion, especially with the emulator angle.

Yeah, I think after further thought I retract my statement of it not being worthwhile to play. There are some really cool bits that are far more interesting to explore than to watch. It's worthwhile to at least check this project out, some of the points I made are from the perspective of a game developer rather than a consumer and really dont actually matter to the actual gameplay experience.

Regardless, I hope that Adam releases a post release patch to fix some of the gameplay annoyances. There are (assumedly) minor changes that can be made to fix these things. May adding options for the user or adding somewhat modernized camera controls bring the thinly veiled realism and immersion of the project down a notch? Maybe, but Catastrophe Crow already had a bunch of bizarre concepts to begin with that I don't really think it matters. I just want to see this be the best it possibly can, and a post release patch would solve most of the criticism levied against this game. Wishing for the best

(+4)

I had to stop playing due to the overwhelming filter and obscene amount of chromatic aberration made my already sensitive eyes strain. Even if it was for added immersion, why does an emulator require a filter you can't turn off?

(+1)

A fun caw-mputer game. Very cool

(+4)

I really wanted to enjoy this, but the fact that the coins reset every time you die makes me not want to continue, especially considering how annoying both the controls and enemies can be as well as the fact that you die in one hit.

Please either stop resetting all the coins when you die, or put in a health system like Mario 64.

Aye, that would help a lot...

why is nils face nonexistent

This is so hype. And it works on Mac <3
